I want to thank everyone from near and far who visited us and took part in our events at the Maui gallery from 2006 - 2008. Without all of you we would not have enjoyed the success and journey that was experienced by us in the gallery. We have some very fond memories of the space, events, connections and people who have come into our lives because of the gallery. Thank you for being a part of it.

Aloha, - Carolyn Quan

Rising Sun at Sunset: Expressions of the Japanese Culture • Friday, July 7th, 2006

The artists of The Quan Gallery - Kenn Briner, Brad Huck, Lori Koprowski, Rhonda Aquino, Kirk Kurokawa and Carolyn Quan - unveiled exciting new work inspired by the Japanese culture on July 7th, 2006. This unique show featured work by all of the artists using their own mediums and techniques including photography, mixed-media, encaustic, oil painting, and photo collage. Each artist expressed their own unique vision capturing various moods and expressions that are inspired by the Japanese culture. The show also introduced Maui-born "phenom" painter, Kirk Kurokawa, who has quickly emerged as one of the greatest talents of the local artist community, to the Westside art scene. Kirk is the winner of the prestigious 2006 Schaefer Portrait Challenge and has shown throughout Hawaii in juried shows to great acclaim. To enhance the visual aspect of the show, there was also live Taiko drumming by the Watanabe Taiko Drummers. The Watanabe family has been performing Taiko for almost a century, going as far back as five generations. Guests enjoyed drumming throughout the evening, as well as Japanese pupus and spirits.

Craig Mullins, Master Hollywood Digital/Concept Artist

Show dates: Friday, January 21st through Tuesday, February 15th

Well-known in Hollywood and in the video gaming industry, digital concept artist Craig Mullins, has been called a “Grand Master” and pioneer in his field. Originally from California, Craig now makes Maui his home, while continuing to create cutting edge concepts for the movie and video gaming industries on the mainland.
